A root canal treatment always consists of an intake with examination, the treatment performed immediately or later, and finally the aftercare to establish that your teeth are healthy.

The treatment is performed with extreme precision and concentration and generally takes about two hours. We pay great attention to the comfort of the patient who, partly because of this, experiences the treatment as relaxing.

Root canal re-treatment
You may have previously had a root canal treatment at another practice and require re-treatment.
For this, too, you have come to the right place at Dental practice Van Mill. We often help people in whom re-treatment is necessary, such as because of complications.
Before root treatment can be done, pre-treatment of the already treated canals is required:
First, the existing filling material – the build-ups and pins – must be carefully removed and the walls of the ducts must be brought back into “shape” without damaging them.
The removal of broken-off instruments from a canal or removal of present build-ups and pins may take longer in some cases.
Once this pre-treatment has taken place, the actual treatment can begin, usually in the same session. However, sometimes this requires a new appointment.

Method of root canal treatment
Intake
During the intake, the tooth is examined using x-rays, among other methods.
Depending on the referral and your dentist’s request, in consultation with you, treatment can sometimes be performed immediately, or you will be given an appointment for treatment after the consultation.
Treatment/Re-treatment
For a treatment we reserve 2 hours and the molar is anesthetized in all cases.
During this treatment, the molar is isolated from the rest of the teeth and mouth using a rubber surgical drape – the “cofferdam” – for safe and hygienic work.
After this, the root canal treatment is performed in three steps: the so-called Clean, Shape and Pack.
Aftercare
After treatment, existing symptoms are usually over immediately. Sometimes, however, there may be some afterthoughts, varying in nature. To check that complaints after treatment are always harmless, aftercare takes place. Even when there are no symptoms, follow-up care takes place to determine that everything is healthy.
